In contrast to many contemporary landscape photographs from the South Island of New Zealand, most of the photographs in this series were taken as night long exposures, some up to 60 minutes in duration depending on available light. Some of these photographs were taken under the soft glow of moonlight, often filtered through cloud cover. Others were lit by the light from nearby towns reflected down from clouds. Yet some others were taken under a combination of moon and starlight. Through long exposure, night was rendered as day.
